Blogging So You Think You Can Dance: So You Think You Can Dance Top 14 Dance Spoiler Open Thread

  • beejers · 1 year ago
Someone please bring it tonight... the usual spoilers look to be out of play this week. And i wont be back at a taping until the top ten performance(at least). It helps to have connections. But until then...the wait for word on tonight's performances is agonizing!
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
beejers, out of curiosity, since I live in Boston, is it hard to get tickets, the way it is (I think) for Idol? No one has spoilers at this point, not even the pairings and choreographers (which is what I'm the most interested in)?
  • beejers · 1 year ago
In terms of getting tickets for TV shows, audiences are in demand for all genres of "taped in front of live audiences". For sitcoms, its alot of "recruiting" as it were. For reality contests, you usually sign up on an email list(in this case, there is a specific company who's name i cannot recall at the moment) once you sign up, its pretty much a lottery system as to who gets sent a notice at which point you RSVP for tix and print out your confirmation. From that point on, its first come first serve in terms of seating and you are not guaranteed a spot. When i was at the top 18 performance a few weeks ago, people started lining up at 12 noon and they reccommend getting there by 330. My sister is on the list and has received multiple "invitations" for tickets, while I havent recieved any yet... I have pointers if you are ever out here and need some hints. Outside of that, it helps to live in LA and know people in the industry(I know some stage managers, and its a tight group...) Hope that helped

To follow up on connections- i knew some people who worked the venue for the season 2 tour here in LA and they were able to get me backstage passes...this city is SUPER incestuous.
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
Thanks for the info! I wondered how it worked. I know in NYC, for The Daily Show, you are put on the list (you need to write to them weeks if not months in advance), and, as with SYTYCD, you are not guaranteed a seat, and have to stand in line for hours (my friends drove in from Boston and did get in last Monday).
  • beejers · 1 year ago
    One last thing:

This is the company's website that books the audience

    On Camera Audiences

Note they also do fundraisers to book seats(we did many of these for my thespian troupe in high school)

OK that should be it for now.
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
Thanks again. I guess I won't fly out (b/c its' expensive and then I might not even get in!!!!). A watching party for the final four or finale would be cool. If anyone is in the Boston area and is interested, let me know.

I'm refreshing this blog every 5 minutes. How sad is that? And it's 4 am.

By the way, what ARE the spoilers for tonight?
  • mara · 1 year ago
seriously, i've been scouring the sytycd blogs all over the internet and NOTHING!
  • beejers · 1 year ago
From my experiences, the taping usually doesnt get out until around after 7pm, and by then, some people have been hanging around for hours and are famished- with The Grove right there, many chose to go out to eat somewhere there, And since the dancers live adjacently, the chance of seeing someone is high, and im sure many audience members take their chances there. Believe me I am as impatient as everyone else. I hightailed it home after the taping to post and didnt get back until around now(830pdt)
  • berrr · 1 year ago
Were the spoilers this late last week?
  • beejers · 1 year ago
If i recall, the spoilers didnt post until around 10pm pacific time 2 weeks in a row. Get that coffee brewing.
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
Hm. I need the names of the dancers, the style of the dance, and the choreographer b/c my Wednesday crit. It's confusing enough (MattMark, Courtney/Kourtni). No Chelsea/Chelsie anymore, though...
  • beejers · 1 year ago
I think next season could be more fun if all the dancers had unisex names, but all were either named some variation of Pat or Sam or Aaron(Erin, Aron, Arin), or Joe(Jo, Joey). It would be downright comical.

There's a poster from TWoP who was apparently going to the show tonight... Hopefully they will save us tragic spoiler addicts sometime soon!

(Here's a link to the spoiler thread at TWoP: http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.p...)
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
Hi, Ms. A!!! Long time, no post. :) Anyway, with the spoilers, I noticed that some of the dances didn't have choreographers attached to them. I wonder why? (I'm not gonna ask...I'm scared of that board. ;-))
  • Ms Anonymous · 1 year ago
Hi Sue! I've been around, just not commenting as much. Always reading, though. This place is a haven for SYTYCD news. Yay, Ted!

Don't be too scared of that board, it's not really that scary once you get used to it. The people in the Meet Market thread are lovely. When I first made my membership there I didn't post for months because I was scared, so I do know what you mean, though!

Maybe it was difficult to remember all the choreographers with the extra amount of performances... I'm off to take another look at the thread to see what's new -- I'm such a spoiler junkie!

I found this on TWoP.....spoilers are up! :)

It seems that everyone is dancing twice this week. I'm surprised -- it's only top 14 yet?
  • DJ · 1 year ago
Each couple got two routines already isn't that early, they are working these people to death I feel sorry for them.
  • Flem · 1 year ago
I agree it is too early for the couples to be doing 2 routines. It is way too many routines to remember. Poor dancers. They must be in pain and are majorly lacking in sleep.
  • zuzushii · 1 year ago
Re: 2 routines this early...part of me is happy because I get to see more great dancing, part of me is happy because if someone gets screwed with a routine like quickstep they get another chance to redeem themselves, part of me is indifferent because I don't believe that two routines will change the outcome of the predestined bottom three guys & girls: Thayne, Matt, Will / Comfort, Kourtni, Jessica. Is it their fault or have the judges&production hammered this into my consciousness with the relentless eulogizing of their favorites? Take these 6 out of the competition (although Will will remain) and when favorites are pitted against favorites things will start getting very interesting.
  • Sara · 1 year ago
I am TIRED of the choreographers and judges having their favorites. You can totally see who gets the special treatment just by the choreys. That's pure BS. You can totally see it from the spoilers at Twop

I don't want Kourtni to go home. She's my second favorite. If predictions are correct and we see Matt/Kourt, Thay/Comfort and Will/Jessica in the bottom 3, and if it all goes according to my wishes (although I'd rather not have anyone leave), I'd say Jessica and then Thay or Matt go home. If Matt leaves and Kourt gets paired with Will...men, she better bring her A++++++ game next week like I know she can.
  • zuzushii · 1 year ago
ah Kourtni and Will, now there is a COUPLING!! I agree with you about Kourtni...she was one of my favorites during the audition rounds but she is getting overshadowed in this boy-worshipping season of SYTYCD. Or "SYTYCDLJTMW" otherwise known as "So You Think You Can Dance Like Joshua, Twitch, Mark, and Will?" I want to root for my gals...I just feel like sometimes the judges beat it out of me.
  • Sara · 1 year ago
Right? I mean, Will and Kourtni's auditions were FANTASTIC. I've been around since Season 2 and their solos, while not being amazingly technical and all, had that WOW factor like i haven't seen anywhere. They brought something totally new to the table by introducing "spoken music" that you can dance to.

And Kourt's solos in the show have been quirky as well. Not the whole jump, quick, turn. It follows the music, the lyrics and the beat. I do think her creativeness got dimmed out due to Matt (I've always noticed a lack of personality in him although I'm the first to praise him for the technique. Hello feet!) and it is unfortunate.

If the judges see things clearly and if Will/Jess, Kourt/Matt end up in the Bottom3, I say pair Will and Kourt. After all, they keep saying Matt and Jess are the ones holding back their partners. Which is, of course, absolutely biased.

HYSTERICAL. If your name is not Katee (surprising, too, given their initial assessment), and you're female, you are not in a very good place. I would add Gev to the guy list, too (well, I'd like to ;-)). I could see them going 7 guys/3 girls if they could (or 6 guys/4 girls). Fortunately, they don't make the final call.
  • Sara · 1 year ago
Okay, so I took the liberty of copy-pasting the pairings/routines from TwoP. Just so they know I'm not forgetting the work they had gathering everything, I did do the same thing and then compared my list to theirs to see if it was correct.

According to the people that attended the taping, this is how things went. 3rd judge(s) were NapTab.

    In no particular order:

    Twitchington: Paso Double
Contemporary - Bed Piece (Mia Michaels)

    Katshua: Contemporary (Mia Michaels)
    West Coast Swing (Benji Shwimmer)

Kourtni/Matt: Hip Hop (Cecily & Olisa)
    Mambo (Alex DiSilva)

Courtney/Gev: Hip Hop (Cecily & Olisa)
    Broadway (Andy Blankenbuehler)

    Marksie: Jazz (Mandy Moore)
    Foxtrot

    Will/Jessica: Jive
    Lyrical Jazz (Mandy Moore)

    Comfort/Thayne: Smooth Waltz
    Broadway (Andy Blankenbuehler)

erg looks like comfort and thayne have it rough this week.
  • Emro · 1 year ago
I agree - if you handicap the dances (e.g. quickstep is -3, lyrical hiphop +3) then comfort and thayne combined would have the worst score for pulling dances (since Martha and Travis has Krump every gotten people out of the bottom three?). I thought for sure they would get contemporary with Mia this week (I knew she was due to come back.) Although I do think it's fair that Marksie got Jazz and foxtrot - they had some pretty great dances for the first three weeks (and they should be able to pull these off well too!)
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
You know what? I am not shocked about your comment, Holly. I do not think Nigel or Mary are huge fans of either Comfort OR Thayne (you could kind of tell by Nigel's tone of voice at the end when he reminded them they would be paired; I don't remember him sounding so ominous in the past). When he paired Pasha and Sara, he wasn't saying, You better prove yourself, people. However...I think they could do well with Broadway (not so much with the smooth waltz).

I think it is WAY too early to give them two numbers. Has that ever happened before the top 10? And why? I mean, it can show versatility, for sure, but man, that is putting a lot of pressure on them.

I typically don't read the spoliers, so I don't know who did well and who didn't, but I feel like the judges have, at least to some extent, made up their minds ahead of time. I mean, every week, they go CRAZY over Joshua and Katee and Twitchington. Not saying they aren't strong, but how about throwing Gev and Courtney or Matt and Kourtini a bone? (Maybe he finally got it after he apologized after And my favorite couple by far (it's just me, perhaps) is Mark and Chelsie, aka Marksie? :) So I kind of think for them the Top 10 has been pre-determined and I don't think that was the case last year or in Australia, was it?
  • Reese_The_Lawgirl · 1 year ago
According to a spoiler on TWOP, all the judges minus Nigel had positive remarks for Comfort and Thayne's Broadway and all of the judges liked their waltz.

That's one person's perspective. I guess we'll find out tomorrow
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
Not so great re: Nigel, but good re: the waltz (he is not a Thayne lover, and seems to be over Comfort). Maybe they won't end up in the bottom three (though I wouldn't hold your breath).
  • bronte13 · 1 year ago
Wow, there's a lot of stuff flying in regards to pimping, tongue baths, suspect choreo assignments, etc. Just one (rhetorical) question: Only his second routine and Benji is considered a high-powered choreographer to be meted out to the judges' favorites?
  • JoannaOC · 1 year ago
Benji was winning WCS comps, choreographing and teaching WCS for years before he won on SYTYCD. Remember his routine last year? It was a winner not least because he chooses fun music.
  • bronte13 · 1 year ago
Yeah, the music was one of the things that made it so fun. Hey, I loved that routine, Thanks for the background.
  • Sue B · 1 year ago
They still don't have all of the choreographers listed, though. I guess the people there didn't get that info down. Guess we'll have to wait till tomorrow! :)

Regarding Comfort and Thayne...from TWOP member "Loqi"...

"I thought their performances were good. The waltz had this beautiful lift where Comfort looked (in the words of a judge) "like an angel" with her beautiful bluish grey sheer gown - she just floated above Thayne and it was gorgeous. Nigel made some sort of comment about how Comfort took out her piercing and looked so much better which kind of irked me. The other comment that he made was that he wasn't going to do the whole "that was great - I can't believe you're a hip hopper" song and dance and he was just going to judge her on her dancing (which was good). I think everyone had good performances this week (with the exception of the Matt/Kourtni hip hop)."
